Ventris, Michael (George Francis)
(12 jul. 1922, Wheathampstead, Hertfordshire, Inglaterra–6 Sep. 1956, cerca de Hatfield, Hertfordshire).

Arquitecto y criptógrafo británico. A los 14 años asistió a una conferencia sobre el misterio acerca de la escritura lineal B (ver escritura lineal A y lineal B) y decidió descifrarla. En 1952 determinó que este sistema de escritura, en su forma conocida más antigua, era griega, puesto que databa de 1400–1200 BC. Colaboró con John Chadwick (n. 1920–m. 98) en Documents in Mycenaean Greek [Documentos en griego micénico] (1956), publicado pocas semanas después de su muerte en un accidente automovilístico.
